How Can We Help?

Everything you need to know about Motivation Genie, the application process, payments, and submitting to SAPS.

Getting Started

4 questions

Motivation Genie is an AI-powered document automation platform that generates professional, legally-sound motivation letters for South African firearm licence applications. Think of it like TaxTim, but for firearm licences. Our system pulls live SAPS crime statistics for your specific precinct and builds a structured legal argument in minutes, not weeks.

Any South African citizen applying for a firearm licence under the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 must submit a motivation letter to the South African Police Service (SAPS). This applies to Section 13 (self-defence), Section 15 (occasional sport/hunting), and Section 16 (dedicated sport/hunting) applications. The motivation letter explains why you need a firearm and is a critical part of your application.

The entire process takes under 10 minutes. Once you complete the guided questionnaire and payment is confirmed, your motivation letter and supporting documents are generated instantly. You can download your complete document package immediately from your dashboard.

You will need your South African ID number, residential address, employment details, details about your daily routine and security concerns, information about your firearm storage arrangements, and the names and contact details of two character references. Having this information ready before you start will make the process quicker.

The process is simple and guided: Step 1 -- Fill in the online questionnaire with your personal details, security concerns, and firearm requirements. Step 2 -- Pay the once-off fee of R499 via PayFast. Step 3 -- Your motivation letter and supporting documents are generated instantly using AI and live crime data. Step 4 -- Annexure H and I forms are automatically sent to your nominated references for digital completion and signature. Step 5 -- Download your complete, print-ready document package from your dashboard.

Yes. Before payment, you can return to your application at any time from your dashboard and update any of the information you have entered. After payment and document generation, if you need to make changes you can contact our support team at support@easyhomenetworks.co.za and we will assist you.

Your document package includes a comprehensive motivation letter tailored to your specific circumstances, incorporating live crime statistics from your precinct and structured legal arguments based on the Firearms Control Act. You also receive supporting annexures and reference forms that are required as part of a complete SAPS submission.

Annexure H is a Character Reference form that must be completed by two people who know you well and can vouch for your character and suitability to own a firearm. Annexure I is a Spousal or Partner Support form that must be completed by your spouse, life partner, or next of kin. Motivation Genie sends unique digital links to your references so they can complete and sign these forms online, saving everyone time and effort.

Payment

4 questions

The service costs a once-off fee of R499.00 (inclusive of VAT). This is significantly less than hiring a private consultant, which can cost R1,500 to R2,000 or more. You only pay when you are ready to generate and download your documents -- there is zero risk to register and complete the questionnaire.

Absolutely. All payments are processed through PayFast, South Africa's most trusted online payment gateway. PayFast is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant, which is the highest level of payment security certification. We never store your credit card or banking details on our servers. Your financial information is protected with bank-grade 256-bit SSL encryption throughout the entire transaction.

Through PayFast, we accept all major South African payment methods including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Instant EFT (supported banks include FNB, Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec, and more), as well as SnapScan and Mobicred. You can choose whichever method is most convenient for you.

Due to the digital nature of the service, once your motivation documents have been generated and made available for download, the fee is non-refundable. However, if you experience any technical issue that prevents document generation after payment, please contact us immediately at support@easyhomenetworks.co.za and we will resolve the matter promptly.

SAPS Submission

4 questions

Once you download your document package, print all the documents. Review the motivation letter to ensure all personal details are correct, then sign where indicated. Combine these with the other required SAPS forms (such as the SAPS 271 application form, competency certificate, and proof of safe storage) and submit the complete package to your nearest Designated Firearms Officer (DFO) at your local police station.

Firearm licence applications are submitted in person at the SAPS police station that serves as the Designated Firearms Registry (DFR) for your area. This is typically your local police station. You can contact your nearest station to confirm they handle firearm applications and to make an appointment with the Designated Firearms Officer (DFO).

Processing times vary, but SAPS is legally required to process your application within 90 days of submission. In practice, it can take anywhere from 60 to 120 days depending on your province and the workload at your local firearms registry. You will receive communication from SAPS regarding the outcome of your application.

If your application is declined, SAPS must provide you with written reasons for the refusal. You have the right to appeal the decision to the Appeal Board within 90 days of receiving the notification. The motivation letter generated by our platform is designed to address all the common grounds for refusal, giving you the strongest possible case. However, the final decision always rests with the authorities.
